Best Electric Skillet Review
Are you interested in buying the best electric skillet you can? This review will go over the highest rated electric skillets available on the market today. We’ve gone through dozens of products and found the best electric frying pans we could to get you the best deal possible. All while trying to meet all your cooking needs.
Electric skillets are an extremely useful and nifty option that allows you to cook without stove space. All you need to do is plug the frying pan into the wall to heat it up, and you can choose the temperature. It’s awesome for when you need that extra space when you’re cooking a large meal and don’t have any more burners available. Maybe you don’t have a stove at all! After all, my skillet really helped when I was in college because our dorm only had some counter space and a microwave. With it, I was able to fry and cook without any trouble. When I was a college kid, it raised my standard of living.
There are all kinds of ways and reasons to pick up an electric skillet and because of this, there are many options to choose from. On top of that, you need to take some things into consideration when deciding what is the best electric skillet to buy. These electric frying pans are created with different uses in mind, and once you figure out your needs, you’ll be able to choose the right one for you.
The Best Cheap Electric Skillet Review
If you’re looking for a cheaper electric frying pan option, you’ll want to opt for something smaller with fewer features. The idea is to trade function for price instead of quality. The biggest mistake you can make is choosing an electric skillet solely because it’s cheap. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have a skillet which doesn’t come with a locking lid than an electric skillet that stops working after the third use.
I present to you the Proctor Silex 38526 Electric Skillet
This skillet is one of the best on the market when it comes to being high quality and very inexpensive. Even though it’s so cost effective, it comes with many features and stands out at its price point. Usually, when you go into the cheaper ranges, you’ll find yourself sacrificing space or options, but that’s not the case with the Proctor Silex 38526.
The Proctor Silex 38526 boasts adjustable heat, cool handles, a glass lid, usable as a serving dish, nonstick coating and is dishwasher safe. These features alone are usually not available when you are looking for inexpensive options. These are some of the reasons I feel this is the highest rated cheap electric skillet. It’s pretty deep at 2 1/2 inches allowing you not to have to worry about things falling out of the pan when you stir. It’s also a 10.5-inch square. Giving you lots of space for cooking and mixing.
It heats up extremely quickly for an electric skillet and manages to do so without creating hot spots. In other words, it’s a very consistent and controllable heating surface. You won’t be accidentally burning or undercooking any of your meat with this product. Its top temperature is 400 degrees F. Just set it to your desired temperature, and when it reaches it, the indicator light will go on and off showing it’s ready for use. The only issue with this skillet is it can’t heat to temperatures necessary for deep frying.
All in all, if you’re looking for an inexpensive electric skillet, this is the best option available. Whether you’re looking for a good gift, something for a dorm room or a first apartment, or just looking for extra space for cooking this is the best electric skillet for cheap.
The Best Electric Skillet for Special Occasions
I took some things into consideration with this review. I intended to find an electric frying pan that is suitable for parties and large dinners. The whole point is you’re cooking and serving a lot of food. So with that focus in mind, I tried to find the best electric skillet for storage, versatility, capacity and clean-up. You don’t want to spend a long time cleaning up one piece of cookware after a large meal, and you don’t want another piece of gear taking up all your pantry real estate.
The Presto 06857 16-inch Electric Foldaway Skillet has everything you’d need and want for cooking for a larger family. It’s a large 16-inch skillet that’s just under 3 inches deep. This allows for you to cook or bake large meals without any issue. It comes with excellent compact storage options to save you space, and it’s dishwasher safe for easy cleanup. Talking about fancy, this skillet comes in two colors: Burgundy and Black. You can also purchase it cheaper if you choose the 12 inch instead of the 16″.
When I was writing this electric skillet review, I realized that this one has something few other electric frying pans do. For the most part, these devices only come with very vague temperature controls. Things like High and low, with a dial that spins to both extremes. However, with the Presto 06857, the designers put extra effort into this skillet. The control dial is completely understandable with the actual temperature in degrees F. This alone gives the electric skillet something most others don’t. Precision.
This pan comes with a lot of features as well. Previously I mentioned easy storage. Well, what you can do is take the base, fold the handles in and store it in the skillet with the lid inverted for extremely compact storage. You can see it in the picture. The skillet also has a small spout off to the side that allows for you to pour out sauces and liquids, and it’s also a spot for the handles of spoons or spatulas so you can close the lid over them. Meaning you don’t need to set the spoon on the counter to shut the lid, you can keep it in the pan.
The actual size of this electric skillet is pretty big. At 16 inches wide and almost 3 inches deep you’ll find that you can pretty much put 3 lbs of chicken wings in the skillet without an issue. You can roast, fry, stew, and bake with ease. You can use it to serve to your guests as it behaves like a regular serving pot. Allowing you to take it straight to the table for people to help themselves. No wonder this electric frying pan is hugely popular and highly regarded.
The Best Electric Skillet
When it comes to no holds barred, the best electric skillet has to be the Zojirushi EP-RAC50 Gourmet d’Expert. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the Zojirushi brand. The company prides itself on making extremely technologically advanced cookware. On top of that, it’s extremely high-quality stuff made in Japan. However, it is more expensive than the other electric skillets reviewed in this article. That said if you’re looking for the best I’m assuming you’re going to want to pay a little more for a top of the line electric skillet.
Right off the bat is the construction material of the skillet itself. It’s coated with a titanic-ceramic nonstick material. This is the same stick-free coating that the pots and pans featured in my Gotham Steel pan review utilize. This is an impressive coating that will let you clean up in seconds. No joke. However there is a bit of an issue, definitely, do not heat the pan empty as this will mess up the nonstick coating.
The temperature is easily controlled with a lever and meter. It goes from simmer all the way up to 480F for deep frying, cooking steaks and making stews. The actual heating element is below the cooking pot (it’s more like a pot, but it’s a deep dish pan). It’s a large circular element that heats evenly, including the sides of the deep dish pot.
It’s fun and convenient because it allows for at the table cooking as well as generic countertop frying. All this is made possible because of the simmer function which allows you to cook and keep your dish warm. It reminds me of a Korean BBQ house where you get to cook and fry your meat at the table in a dish. But you can keep anything warm there, like soups, stews, pasta, and veggies. It’s not just an electric frying pan. It can be used for a lot more.
All in all, this is an easy example of getting what you pay for. The extra price is worth it. Even the little things are impressive. For example, it’s cord is attached magnetically for power and not inserted. So if you snag yourself on the cord, it just detaches, so you don’t pull this electric skillet off the table.
It’s not an inexpensive single use electric skillet, but it does so much more. With two cooking surfaces it’s both an electric skillet and an electric pot. In fact, it pretty much will handle most of your cooking needs if you let it. The company is top tier, and people are giving it raving reviews across the board. For me, this is the highest rated electric skillet review I can suggest.
